What it is?

Garjiya Zone (also called Garjia Zone or Ringora Zone) is one of the major safari areas within Jim Corbett National Park. It lies very close to Ramnagar city — only about 3–9 km away — making it one of the most accessible wildlife safari zones.

This zone gets its name from the Garjiya Devi Temple situated near the Kosi River, which flows through or close to parts of the safari region and adds scenic beauty to the area.

Garjiya is considered one of the best places outside Dhikala for wildlife viewing and safari experiences, combining rich biodiversity with open grasslands (chaurs), waterholes, and dense forests.

Safari Experience

Jeep Safaris

  • Safari drives usually operate morning and afternoon/evening shifts, each about 2–4 hours long.

  • The number of jeeps allowed per shift is limited to minimize disturbance to wildlife.

  • Permits must be booked in advance through the official Corbett Tiger Reserve portal or at the forest office in Ramnagar.

Wildlife You Might See
Garjiya Zone is known for its healthy tiger population, making tiger sightings common and often spectacular. Other wildlife includes:

  • Royal Bengal Tiger

  • Elephants

  • Leopard

  • Deer species (sambar, spotted deer)

  • Wild boar

  • Various birds — including residents and migrants depending on season

The presence of riverbeds, grasslands, and forest edge habitats makes sightings more frequent near water sources and open areas

Nature & Landscape

Garjiya’s terrain is diverse and picturesque, featuring:

  • Chaurs (grasslands) like Machaan Chaur and Ringora Chaur

  • Sal forests and mixed scrub

  • River streams and waterholes that attract herbivores

  • Forest trails and natural clearings ideal for photography and bird watching

This mix of habitats supports a rich food web and wildlife activity year-round.

 Best Time to Visit

  • Garjiya Zone safaris typically run from mid-October / mid-November to mid-June each year.

  • Some parts of the year (especially monsoon) may see restricted access depending on rainfall and ground conditions, though Garjiya may remain open longer compared to some other zones in heavy rains.

 Tips Before You Go

  • Advance booking is crucial as safari slots are limited and sell out quickly.

  • Morning safaris often provide the best chance for wildlife sightings, especially for predators like tigers.

  • Follow all park rules and guide instructions for your safety and the protection of wildlife.
